Social Service

According to the General Regulations for the Provision of Social Service of the University of Guadalajara in its Chapter One "General Provisions" states that:

Article 1 . These Regulations establish the bases and guidelines for the rendering of social service.

Article 2 . The students who carry out studies in the following educational programs are obliged to provide social service:

I. Terminal technical baccalaureate;

II. Professional technician;

III. Higher university technician, and

IV. Bachelor's degree.

Likewise, students of institutions with official recognition of validity of studies by the University of Guadalajara are obligated to perform social service.

Article 3 . The social service is the formative activity and the application of knowledge that students or interns of the University and of the institutions that offer educational programs with official recognition of validity of studies, in benefit of the different sectors of society, perform in a temporary and obligatory manner.

Article 4. Social service at the University of Guadalajara has the following objectives:

I. To extend the benefits of education, science and technology, technology and culture to society, in order to promote the socio-cultural development, especially of the most disadvantaged social groups;

II. To foster in the social service provider, a conscience of service, solidarity, commitment and reciprocity to the society to which he/she belongs;

III. To encourage the participation of students or interns in the solution of state and national priority problems;

IV. To promote in students and interns reflective and critical attitudes, and to contribute to the academic formation and professional training of the social service provider;

V. Promote and stimulate the active participation of the social service providers, so that they have the opportunity to apply, verify and evaluate the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values acquired; and,

VI. To strengthen the linkage of the University with society.

Article 5. The rendering of the social service is an indispensable requirement for the student to have the right to the professional evaluation in the educational programs that the University offers indicated in article 2 of the present and the subsequent obtaining of the degree.

Article 6. The rendering of the university social service does not generate an employment relationship between the social service provider and the agency to which he/she is assigned.

Article 7. The number of hours during which the student or graduate shall perform his/her social service shall be as follows:

I. In the studies of terminal technical baccalaureate education, 240 hours;

II. In the studies of intermediate professional technician, higher university technician and bachelor's degree, 480 hours;

III. In the studies of the bachelor's degrees in medicine, dentistry, nursing, nutrition and the programs of studies of university higher technician of the health area, as well as nursing of the technical level, one year.

Article 8 . The students and trainees may begin their service when they have covered a percentage of the total number of credits of the corresponding study program, in accordance with the following guidelines:

I. Students of the terminal technical baccalaureate, intermediate professional technician, higher university technician and bachelor's degree, must have covered at least 60% of the total credits of the corresponding study plan;

II. In the cases of the law and psychology curricula, they must have covered 70% of the credits, and

III. In the study of medicine, dentistry, nursing, nutrition and the study programs of university health technician, as well as nursing at the technical level, until they have covered 100% of the credits of the study plan.

According to the Computer Engineering curriculum, 60% of the credits are considered:

Information Systems: (60% of credits = 201 credits)(Generations until 2022B).

Computer Systems: (60% of credits = 225 credits)(Generations from 2023A).
